The Kamiya dojo is the reign of peacefulness for a change, and Ranma fell asleep on the roof. Ranma woke up to a serenity that he rarely ever saw, his eyes shone in the moonlight brought from above and he smiled. Ranma stood up and jumped down landing before a girl without realizing it, "AHHHHH Ranma-Kun don't scare me like that!" Kasumi gently scolded him. Ranma smiled sheepishly and took his trademark pose of one hand behind his head and laughing weakly "sorry Kasumi-chan, didn't know you were still awake. Kasumi smiled and nodded her head, motioning for him to sit beside her "Ranma-kun, Kaoru-dono has offered me a position to stay here as the dojo's caretaker. I don't want to jump back into your life like this, so i was wondering what your take on this was." Kasumi was blushing lightly before she was even done saying the words, she didn't have the courage to look at Ranma at this time but in her heart already knew his answer. "Kasumi-chan, you should know by now that i would love to have you near me, you are like the sun in my eyes, i love to see you just to know your still there. It's quite relieving to know that someone cares for me from my past..." Ranma bowed his head and rested it in his hand. "Ranma does that mean yes or no?" Kasumi still didn't have the heart to look at his face, she knew his decision and she knew she would have to abide by it. Kasumi's face showed shock as Ranma took her into a hug and held onto her while talking "Kasumi, i would love you to stay here, but i don't want you to be un-happy, if you want to take the job, do it. Do something that you want for a change, you haven't before then and you should start." Kasumi smiled at Ranma and wiped the tears from her eyes, then hugged onto him again. Soon Ranma heard the faint sounds of light breathing and looked Kasumi in the face, to see her sleeping peacfully in his arms. Ranma chuckles "she'll never change, and i hope it stays that way" Ranma picked up Kasumi walking her up the stairs in his arms, opened up her room and laid her in his bed. Ranma smiled and then pulled up the sheets, looking one last time he smiled and left the room, shutting the door behind him. "g'night Kasumi" The next morning, everyone woke to the sounds of fighting in the backyard, then a loud explosion rocked the house. "RANMA PREPARE TO DIE!!" the boy through a wicked left hook towards Ranma's head, only to have it pass through the air. Ranma came back up with his left foot, kick the kid in the face and throwing him back and into the wall. "What do you want P-chan, i told you to leave me alone." Kenshin was suprised in the least to see Ranma's casual display of his Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu's god-like speed, and decided this required more watching. The boy got back up and look at Ranma "Damnit Ranma, because of you i've seen hell." the one refered to as P-chan got up and ran toward Ranma's form, which conveniently stood before the koi pond. "Give it up Ryouga, you can't hurt me, let alone touch me." with those words said, Ranma's form dissipated into thin air, letting Ryouga fall through into the pond activating his curse. Ranma reached into the pond and picked up the piglet by the bandana "same ole stupid Ryouga, stupid and dense beyond comprehension" Ranma laid the piglet on the ground, then stood back as it became concious again. The next few words from 'Ryouga's mouth came in a series of BWEE's. Ranma took a bottle of warm water he had been saving in case he transformed and poured a little over Ryouga's head. Kaoru and Kasumi turned their heads with red hues on their cheeks, when Ryouga's form filled from a black piglet to a boy's figure with no clothes. "Ranma you idiot, you could've put me in my clothes before you poured that on me!!" Ranma smirked at Ryouga and decided to have more of his fun "c'mon p-chan you should know by now since you sneak up on me i won't give you a chance to be decent" Ryouga snarled at Ranma and ran toward him. Ranma glowered at Ryouga and threw a straight kick, hitting Ryouga in his chest and knocking him through the wall behind him. Ryouga got up and ran in a random direction "Ranma i'll get you for this, i know you kidnapped Kasumi-chan, and i won't let you hide from me!" At this point Ranma was seething with anger. Ranma jumped onto the dojo and down to the concrete below, right in front of Ryouga. When he landed the concrete around his feet blasted up into shatter pieces, "Ryouga you moron, what the hell are you talking about? I didn't kidnap Kasumi, she's staying here on behalf of herself." Ryouga laughed slightly, giving his patented ignorant look and smirked "Ranma, i don't think that Kasumi would stay here with YOU, your nothing but a pervert" Ryouga was shocked in the least to see some of the shattered concrete lifting off the ground and hover in the air. "Ryouga, if you don't leave me alone, i don't know how much longer i will be able to hold back on you" Ryouga growled and punch Ranma in the face, and he was shocked when Ranma brushed it off as nothing. "Ryouga, you don't seriously think that your punches have hurt me in the past do you,... i've trained to become the best, and killing Saffron is what pushed my power to and over my limit. I can access that power whenever i want." Ryouga's eyes flew wide open. He remembered that day, where Ranma had used a source of power no one knew he had. He created one of the saotome school of martial arts forbidden techniques and combined it with the Hiryu Shoten ha. The end result was one dead pheonix god. At this point, Ryouga was shaking with unknown fear, but his mind wouldn't accept it and quickly became angry. "Ranma get serious, we both know that you were just lucky when you fought Saffron, no one is more powerful than a god, not even the old ghoul." Ryouga smirked with his intellect. Ranma's eyes narrowed as he looked Ryouga in the eyes "listen and listen good Ryouga, i'm only saying this once, if you don't leave me alone, i will tap this power and i will make sure you feel pain like you've never felt before, the Bakusai tenketsu will feel like a baby's kick when i'm done with you." Ranma never really liked threats, but sometimes people didn't know when to stop, even he knew it had to stop this time (1). Ryouga was angry, so angry he was seeing red, he yelled out a battle cry and went to throw a punch towards Ranma's face. His answer was a kick, not a normal one, but a kick that had enough power to knock him away from Ranma, away from Japan, and more importantly away from conciousness. Ranma walked back in through the front gate, sporting a light cut on his face. Kasumi gasped and ran over to him, quickly taking care of the wound with a damp rag. Ranma blushed a little as the rest of the people laughed quietly. Then there was a knock at the door. Kaoru went and opened the gate to reveal a familiar police officer. "Ano, i'm sorry to interupt but, is Himuru-dono here?" The officer was indeed nervous, but walked with a slight confidence in his step. "i'm himura, what is it?" Himura stepped forward and bowed, the officer bowed back and smiles "himura-san, yamagata-san said to tell you about the crimes going on in Kyoto." Ranma blinked when he saw Kenshin's eyes narrow a little before goin back to normal and thought "hmmm weird, Kenshin must have some bad memories from Kyoto or something." Ranma shrugged it off as the police officer was finishing his story. "So you see himura-san, we need someone more powerful to beat this Shishio, his warriors have all but slaughtered our police force. We need your help, i know you said that you don't want anything to do with the battousai again, but please, the fate of Kyoto rests upon you going." Kenshin smiled his original smile and bowed to the officer "i will go to kyoto, as long as i go alone" Ranma smirked and stepped forward "i don't think so Kenshin, if you go, i'm going. Can't have you getting yourself killed and have Kaoru-dono beat on me for not helping." Kaoru blushed lightly and scowled at Ranma, a scowl that meant much pain in the future. Kenshin smiled and nodded "okay, but just you Ranma, the girls must stay here" Ranma smiled and bowed to Kenshin "kenshin, i know what you are thinking, and i agree. If the ladies go, there's a chance they can get used for bait and possibly killed, Kasumi-chan is the one who loved me from the beginning, i'm not ready for that loss yet." Ranma said that with much pride and a slight blush on his cheeks. Kasumi's face was lit like a bonfire, this whole time they have been talking about protecting them without a care for themselves, and it made her think of how Ranma has protected Akane in the past. She tapped Ranma on his shoulder and he turned to look at her. Kasumi's face was toward the ground "Ranma... tell me please, did you save Akane because you liked her?" Ranma went into full blown laughter "that uncute tomboy?!? hecks no Kasumi, i saved her because if i didn't, the loss of your sister would make you sad, and you don't need that after all that happened." Ranma took Kasumi's face in his hand and kisses her on the cheek, making Kasumi blush even more before he whispered into her ear "i'll tell you what Kasumi, after this is over, we can move to Juuban and start over, okay?" Kasumi was blushing like never before, her face was bright red and her body shaking with excitement, she hugged onto Ranma for life "thank you Ranma, you have no idea how much this means to me." Ranma smiled and returned the hug. "Kasumi-chan, i know you think of me as a brother, or a son, and i think of you like a sister, or maybe a past lover. I know nothing can make us fall in love, nor would i want that. I have gotten to like this side of you, and since your family won't be there, we can finally get you a deserving boyfriend." With that Ranma smiled and Kasumi was even more red(2). Kenshin was laughing and looks at Ranma with a new light, this powerful person had a soft side and protected people for the sake of others, it was his ideals all over in another person. Ranma and Kasumi blush as they realize the whole time, the occupants of the Kamiya kasshin dojo have been watching them, with knowing smiles on their face and some laughter. Ranma chuckles and soon begins his carefree attitude again. You never would have known that there was talk of people being murdered at this dojo, because the laughter resinated all around town. Ranma had let Kasumi sleep in his bed, til they could affor another bedroll, and he slept on the porch, Ranma smiled when he remembered Kasumi's reaction to him offering his bed to her, once again it didn't fail and he put his foot in his mouth. *******FLASHBACK******** it's night time, and Ranma yawned, followed suit by Kasumi. They laughed a little then smiled at the sleeping figures of Suzume and Ayame. Ranma walked over and picked up Suzume, and nodded to Kasumi, who picked up Ayame. They slowly walked to the guest room and laid the sleeping kids down on a bedroll, and covered them up. Ranma paused for a minute looking down at their sleeping figures and he smiled, not a forced one like he used to, but a genuine smile. Kasumi smiled as she realized what Ranma had been doing, she tapped him on the shoulder and motioned for him to follow. They headed out to the porch and sat back down. "Ranma, you like Ayame and Suzume, right?" Ranma's smile broadened and he nodded "of course, i think their adorable, i can't wait to have kids of my own." Kasumi blushed a little but covered it up with a fake cough. "Kasumi, are you okay? your not catching a cold are you? Do i have to take you to the doc's? Are you sure?" Kasumi tried her best not to laugh as she just nodded or shook her head. "Ranma-kun, i was embarassed so i tried to cover it up, *giggles* i think it's cute that you were worried about me though" cue Ranma's blush. Ranma smiled, than sighed, looking at the ground "what's wrong Ranma-kun, did i do something wrong?" Ranma was quick to answer "no no no, nothing of your fault, just thinking, this is going to be the last night we have together.... and i want to get a good night sleep, but i don't want to leave you." Ranma blushed a little "i guess it can't be helped though, all well, Kasumi you can sleep in my bed..." before Ranma finished that sentence he was being slapped, not a hate slap, just an embaressed slap "Ranma-kun i can't sleep with you, that's not how brothers and sisters act." Ranma's blush came back in full force. "K-Kasumi, i meant you can sleep in my bed, i'll sleep in the porch, you slapped me before i could finish" He smiles weakly and chuckled a little at Kasumi's embarasment. "Oh my god, i'm so sorry Ranma-kun, i shouldn't have jumped to conclusions like that" Ranma smiled as she tried to apologize for it. "Kasumi-chan, it's my fault, i should have stated i would take the porch before bringing up you in my bed, i'm sorry" Ranma mock bowed before her and fell to the ground laughing, soon joined by Kasumi. **********END FLASHBACK************* Ranma woke up as soon as he felt something kicking him in his shin. He sleepily woke up and looks at the figure that was dressed in a white pair of pants, and a white shirt. "Hey you bum, get off the dojo's property" The figure's eyes went wide as soon as he noticed who it was "Ranma, is that you?!? what the hell are you doing sleeping out here?" Ranma blinked a couple times before realization dawned on him. "Sano-kun, what brings you here, i'm staying at the Dojo, as for why i'm out here, i let Kasumi-chan sleep in my room so she could get a nice night of sleep" Sanosuke smiled as soon as he heard the chan part. "Awww Ranma has a girlfriend now? how sweet" Ranma blushed deep red and mock punched him in the shoulder "jeez, you big jerk, she's my friend, and my sister. It was Sanosuke's turn to blink "you have a sister?" Ranma grinned and jumped up onto his feet "yup, not by blood, but rather by rejection". Sanosuke's brain was trying to catch up with what he said, and he could only come up with one word "what?" Ranma was laughing hard at this point and time, just the look on Sano's face was enough to make him laugh. "Sanosuke, i am no longer Ranma Saotome, but rather just Ranma, i left the Saotome registry when my stupid ass father tried to use me for his own gain, again." Sano was seething with rage "that fat ass bastard tried to force you into something, you mean beside the Kuonji girl and that chinese bimbo?" Ranma's nod was enough to set Sanosuke off as he hit the ground, making a small crater. "damnit, just when i think that i caused that bastards life hell for picking on you, he does it again." Ranma smiled as Sano showed that he cared for Ranma. "Don't worry Sanosuke, i can take care of myself now." Sano blinked and looked at him with his face contorted into a "huh" pose. "Sano, after you left, Akane Tendo was kidnapped and i went to china to save her. When i got there i found she was in the possesion of a pheonix god, a real life god." Sano by this time was sitting on the porch and Ranma followed suit, continuing his story, neither noticed that Kasumi was listening. "When i got there, i found out i had to beat this guy to get Akane back, he was a pheonix living in a human shell, his name was Saffron." Sanosuke nodded as he heard legends of a pheonix god in the mountains while training. "But when it came down to it, i didn't wanna save Akane, all she did was use and abuse me, she even thought i loved her and she still did all that, on top of her toxic cooking, hers makes Kaoru's taste good" Sanosuke fell in shock, and Kasumi stiffled a small giggle. "well when it came down to it, i didn't wanna save her, but when i saw Kasumi's face, Akane's sister, i had to. If i didn't i would lose someone i cared about deeply, and i've lost enough as it was. So i had to kill Saffron" Sano's eyes bugged out even further. "so let me get this straight, you killed to save someone you hate, to make someone you like, happy?" Ranma nodded slowly "don't get me wrong, i didn't like it, not in the least, i still wonder how i did it. I had tapped into a power i never knew i had, it had exceeded nearly everything i've ever felt or used." Sano by this time was twitching, he had sparred with Ranma before and already thought he was too good for his own sake. "So let me get this straight, after killin this god figure, how much more power have you gained?" Ranma sighed and looked at the ground "i'll tell you, but don't tell Kasumi, i don't want her to think of me as a monster" after seeing Sano nod, he took a deep breath "i didn't reach the peek of that plateau, but what i used to defeat Saffron was aproximately" cringes and readies himself for the outburst "over twenty times more powerful than i already was" Sano blinked for a minute, his face calm and nodding. Then we see the dojo shake with a force, from a voice "TWENTY TIMES!?!?!?!? YOUR KIDDING ME!!" ranma cringed again and shook his head "nope, not kidding, i know what your thinking though, i was already too powerful for my own sake. As it is, i have a minimum of three fights coming up, one with shampoo, one with Cologne to free myself from the bonds of their laws, and another with this Shishio guy to stop his killing spree in Kyoto." Ranma sighed as he thought he had gotten rid of this nonsence when he left the Tendo dojo. _______________________________________________________________________ authors notes - (1) and that's pretty bad (2) if even possible... sheesh talk about cherry red......
